How to become a Freemason?
2B1ASK1

If you've been roaming the internet looking for information on how to become a Freemason you've probably noticed the slogan above. It's been around on the net for some time now. I have no idea where, or how it originated, but it is an amazing advertising slogan.

It literally does mean what it says TO BE ONE, ASK ONE.

For reasons that I've never heard explained it seems that the accepted truth of becoming a Freemason is that you have to be invited. Nothing could be further from he truth, we are not allowed to actively recruit.
We are not allowed to head hunt anyone, no matter how suitable we think that person might be.
It is a simple fact that you have to ask to become a member..!

But ask who? ...and the obvious answer is of course, ask a Freemason.

But I don't know any Freemasons... You've probably heard it said about the internet that the answers to everything are there somewhere? And it is true in regards to finding a Freemason. After all you are reading this, and I am a Freemason...

There are a number of ways in which you can introduce yourself...

You do have to ask, we are not allowed to actively seek out or recruit members !

I think you will find that whatever steps you initially take, you will find that they are well received and encouraged.

So can anyone join?

There is a criteria that you must meet before you can join, but its not very strict, and can be easily met by most members of society.

You must...
...be at least 21 years of age. (Unless you are the son of a Freemason, in which case it can be 18).
...be of sound character and judgement.
...have a firm belief in a Supreme Being. (Refer to the page Freemasonry & Religion for more information).
...not have a criminal record.
